Weekend Undercards

Etches Vs Khomitsky, McDonnell Vs Yegorov and Charlo Vs Martirosyan

Preview and Predictions

Adam Etches takes a step up in competition as he faces the experienced veteran Sergey Khomitsky, Khomitsky has shared the ring with the likes of Gennady Golovkin, Martin Murray, Jamie Moore, Ryan Rhodes, Robert Stieglitz and last year upset Frank Warren’s up and comer Frank Buglioni.

This is not an easy fight for Etches but one in which we are likely to see exactly how good he is. Etches to date has looked a very tasty prospect with 15 stoppages from 18 wins, but really it has been against level of opposition not even near Khomitsky’s level.

Khomitsky was fighting on par with former world champion Robert Stieglitz only 8 months ago prior to a controversial stoppage that put an end to that bout in the 10th round.

I think 5/2 on Khomitsky is worth a small play, he has only been stopped 3 times, once by Gennady Golovkin and the stoppage against Robert Stieglitz was to do with his hand wraps so Khomitsky is a tough out and is likely to stay the course. I think he can cause Etches problems.

BETTING TIP: £10 on Khomitsky 5/2 Bet365

Following his impressive win against former world title challenger Vusi Malinga, McDonnell looks to claim the European title and continue his progression. He will face Ukrainian Oleksandr Yegorov.

I haven’t been able to find much footage on Yegorov, only a bout from 2012 so you would have expected him to have improved from there, however from what I have seen, Yegorov is an offensive minded fighter who likes to come forward and throws with intentions.

Unless Yegorov has immensely improved in his 6 fights I think McDonnell will be a couple of levels above and should break Yegorov down over 12 rounds. It’s hard to make a prediction with so little on Yegorov but I expect McDonnell to win by a unanimous decision or late stoppage, favouring the late stoppage.

McDonnell is 4/6 to get the KO/TKO but I think Its too low to play on its own, I am going to play it in a treble with Frankie Gavin by KO/TKO and Jermell Charlo by decision which gives us 3/1.

BETTING TIP: £10 on McDonnell by KO/TKO, Gavin by KO/TKO and Charlo by decision 3/1 Bet365

This is an intriguing match up stateside in Las Vegas this weekend as rising star Jermell Charlo goes in against the perhaps highly underrated Vanes Martirosyan.

Charlo so far in his career has looked a sensational talent and has been almost punch perfect to date, a masterful jab with precision combinations. If Charlo is allowed to fight his fight on the outside and at a moderate pace this weekend, there will be only one winner – Jermell Charlo.

However Martirosyan is an underrated fighter who can cause the upset this weekend, he will be the more aggressive fighter in there with excellent skills of his own and if he can upset Charlo’s rhythm and turn the fight into a higher paced too and throw affair he has a chance.

I am expecting Charlo to carve out a unanimous decision but this is a step up against a highly capable world level opponent and with only 8/13 available on it I don’t think it gives us much value, I will be playing it in the suggested treble.

BETTING TIP: £10 on McDonnell by KO/TKO, Frankie Gavin by KO/TKO and Charlo by decision 3/1 Bet365
