Victor Emilio Ramirez Vs Ovill McKenzie – Preview and Prediction

Ovill Mckenzie steps in at 11 days notice to fight Victor Ramirez for the vacant IBF cruiserweight title in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in what is an incredible opportunity for the British and Commonwealth cruiserweight champion.

McKenzie has found a new lease of life at cruiserweight since moving up in 2014, stopping 3 of his last 4 opponents, including decent level opponents in Jon Lewis Dickenson and Tony Conquest, McKenzie also won Prizefighter at cruiserweight, so it is certainly a weight that favors the Jamaican born fighter.

In Ramirez, McKenzie faces a very good fighter, probably a guy a level or 2 above him to be honest. Ramirez is a solid fighter who is relentless at times, Ramirez is coming off the back of a good win against Brit Ola Afolabi, a win that secured him the interim IBF title.

Ovill is facing an uphill task in this fight in Ramirez’s back yard, Ramirez is the better fighter for me, but McKenzie has beaten fighters before who are better than him and with that one punch power, you just can’t write ‘The Upsetter’ off, his name is there for a reason.

However I get the feeling in Ramirez, McKenzie is not only facing a better fighter he is facing a tough man both physically and mentally, Ramirez himself has traveled and upset the apple cart in his career also, but now with home comforts it is very difficult to see how McKenzie wins this unless he knocks Ramirez out, away fighters don’t get favours on the scorecards in Argentina.

This is a difficult pick for me because I really am a fan of Ovill McKenzie, despite 12 losses in his career he has always picked himself up, plugged along and improved, I have a lot of respect for that. However as I always advise, you must not let you heart rule your head when betting, although it’s hard sometimes.

I can see Ramirez stopping Ovill in this fight but at 4/9 I wouldn’t back it, no value in it whatsoever.

Mckenzie is not going to get a better chance then this, Ramirez is a solid world level guy but he is far from elite, If Mckenzie can land that big shot he can definitely hurt Ramirez, who was down twice in his penultimate fight against modest opposition.

I am going to bite the bullet and go with my heart for a change and have a small stake on McKenzie pulling off the upset, he is 5/1 at Bet365 and has a massive task ahead against a tough guy in a tough backyard, but it is not an impossible task. 5/1 is decent odds and worth a tickle.

BETTING TIP: £10 on Ovill Mckenzie to win 5/1 Bet365
