Tommy Coyle Vs Martin Gethin

Preview, Prediction and Betting Tip

Tommy Coyle looks to get past former British champion Martin Gethin as he hunts a summer showdown with Olympic champion Luke Campbell. Coyle is coming in off the back of a sensational knockout win against Michael Katsidis.

Tommy Coyle

Coyle may well be looking ahead to a lucrative showdown with Luke Campbell later this year, but first he will need to get past a competent opponent in former British champion Martin Gethin.

Coyle looked superb in his last outing against Michael Katsidis, boxing extremely well off the back foot in the early going before scoring a devastating knockout win in the second round, but in Katsidis we were very much looking at a shadow.

Coyle is very much a boxer, however due to how easily he gets dragged into a brawl this can be mistaken, if he boxes to a game plan and shows discipline this weekend, he should be able to bag rounds comfortably.

Coyle possesses a decent dig which was very much evident in his last fight, however there have been question marks over his chin, he was dropped 4 times by the Argentinian Daniel Brizuela, this is a guy Luke Campbell had no problems with what so ever.

If Coyle gets dragged into that type of fight with Gethin, it could be a long night for him.

Martin Gethin last notable fight was a beat down at the hands of Terry Flanagan who made him retire on his stool at the end of the 7th, Gethin looked a faded fighter in that contest.

However that could be a bit of a smokescreen in the sense Flanagan is an exceptional talent that is quite underrated and I say he beats Coyle if they fought too.

In that sense Coyle could be in tougher with Gethin than many people expect.

Gethin is a come forward fighter that likes to work his way in and if he can drag Coyle into his type of fight, he does have a chance of pulling off the upset and ruining Coyles plans.

I don’t expect Coyle to lose to Gethin this weekend, but I do think there could be some competitive rounds in this one and Gethin may put up a better fight than many expect him too. Gethin is a tough man and I don’t expect Coyle to blow him away in the second round.

I think Coyle breaks Gethin down and when there is little left begins unloading and stops his man late on, however it wouldn’t surprise me to see this one go the distance and with Bet365 offering up 5/2 on a Coyle decision I think there is value there.
