Tommy Coyle Vs John Simpson – 2nd November 2013

Location – Hull Arena, Hull, Yorkshire, United Kingdom

vacant IBF International lightweight title

Simpson comes in as a late replacement for Gavin Ree’s in this one and he will face Coyle who was brutally knocked out by Derry Mathews back in July, despite dominating that fight for the most part of 10 rounds.

Coyle has had a little 4 rounder outing against soft opposition in William Warburton since the Mathews loss, and given the manner in which he was knocked out that will serve him well for this fight, as when a fighter gets knocked out like that you do wonder how it will effect their mentality going into the next bout.

Coyle boxed superbly against the experienced Mathews and those who backed Mathews, like me knew how lucky they were to come away with a winning bet.

Simpson is a pressure fighter who tends to be at his best when he is pressing the action and will most likely try and drag Coyle into a war, however if Coyle boxes as well as he did against Mathews it could be a long night for Simpson.

I do favour Coyle on points for this one, but at evens i am not too keen on the price as i do think this could turn out to be a real close fight and i do think both fighters have enough to put the hurt on the other so i certainly don’t see a stoppage as out of the question here, and i do like the odds on a small straddle in the KO/TKO markets.

Coyle is 7/2 to find a stoppage and Simpson is as big as 8/1, these odds are good for a straddle bet in my opinion.

ATR’s Bets – £10 on Coyle by KO/TKO 7/2 Paddy Power, £10 on Simpson by KO/TKO 8/1 Bet365, £5 on the draw 28/1 Sky Bet.
