Stephen Smith Vs Devis Boschiero – Preview and Prediction

Stephen Smith will face experienced Italian Devis Boschiero in an IBF final eliminator for their world super featherweight title, Smith will have home comforts at the Olympia in Liverpool, the bout will feature on Sky Sports 1 from 8pm.

Bosciero is an experienced competitor who has already had a shot at a world title in 2011, losing a split decision to Japan’s Takahiro Ao, a fight he had an argument for winning, so this is not a forgone conclusion for Smith he is up against a legitimate contender who has proven himself at world level.

Bosciero has limitations technically, he is not the most skillful fighter you will see but he is a rugged, come forward fighter who likes to grind opponents down on the inside, he also has some pop that will need to respected.

At 30 years of age this is a crucial fight for Smith, a loss here could all but end any world title aspirations for ‘Swifty’ as he looks to become the first of the four Smith brothers to land a world title.

However Smith’s superior boxing ability should see him by Bosciero, Bosciero will be a tough game competitor who will try to wear Smith down and dictate the fight on the inside, as long as Smith utilises his superior movement and boxing ability he can make it a comfortable night for himself.

I can see this being a messy fight at times with a lot of clinching and holding, Smith will need to make sure he doesn’t get frustrated and stays focused.

In terms of betting this fight, the most likely outcome in this bout for me is a fairly wide points win for Stephen Smith but at a best price of 8/13, in terms of value I don’t think its backable.

Smith is 7/2 to get the stoppage at Bet365, Bosciero is tough but I have seen him hurt in fights and Smith has enough punching power to finish things if he can land them, which I think he can.

BETTING TIP: £20 on Smith by KO/TKO 7/2 Bet365
