Scott Quigg Vs Kiko Martinez – Preview and Prediction

Scott Quigg takes a step up in class against the dogged Spaniard Kiko Martinez as he defends his WBA World Super Bantamweight title in Manchester this weekend.

Most boxing fans will be fully aware of Kiko Martinez relentless style and the threat he brings to Quigg’s unbeaten record. Quigg while he has beaten everyone put in front of him quite convincingly and has shown himself to be a strong, solid super bantamweight, it could be argued he hasn’t really had the audition for a guy like Kiko.

There isn’t too much flair or dimensions to Kiko Martinez but there is as relentless style and a pair of heavy hands and he certainly fights to his strengths and is comfortable in his style.

Scott Quigg has never really had to fight off the backfoot like he will have too this weekend he is so used to having the time and space to do what he wants given the level of opposition he has faced to date, he won’t have that with Martinez and it will be interesting to see how he deals with being dragged into a fight.

The key for Quigg will be to earn Martinez respect early on in the fight, Quigg has a sickening body shot in his armoury and this could be a very successful tool in slowing Martinez down, or even stopping him altogether.

I think we are going to see a stoppage in this fight and it wouldn’t surprise me to see Scott Quigg lose this weekend. Martinez is 9/2 down at the Betfair exchanges, I am not sure how long that price will hold but for me there is certainly value in it. Alternatively you could straddle it with Quigg by KO/TKO at 9/4 (paddy power).

However I am keeping this one simple, I think Martinez is very much a live dog in this one and I am going to back him for an upset at 9/2.

BETTING TIP: £20 on Martinez by any method 9/2 Betfair.
