Saul Alvarez Vs Erislandy Lara

 Preview, prediction and betting recommendation

I will have to admit I have swayed a little on this one as I think it is one of those fights where any outcome could occur between two extremely talented fighters and no one really knows the outcome until we see it play out.

However I have rested on my picks, the fact of the matter for me is the more I look at this fight the more I think the style match up will suit Lara and If he plays to his strength’s he could be in a situation where he is able to use his speed and timing to great effect, picking at Alvarez off the back foot and effectively outboxing him.

However the risk is Lara can be worn down by later in fights against strong guys and I think Alvarez is a solid customer in those areas he has strength and power in abundance, the latter rounds we could see Alvarez coming on strong after a bright start by Lara in the first half of the fight, that is certainly a scenario I can see occurring in this fight.

Also we must remember this is a Golden Boy event and Alvarez is there only fighter capable of pulling off a PPV event currently, so If it does go to the cards don’t expect Lara to get any favour’s,  Lara may need to really convince here to get the nod.

If you look at Canelo’s career so far he has struggled with opponents with good movement, Mayweather and Trout’s movement gave Canelo issues and Lara has excellent movement so I expect a fresh Lara to give Canelo issues in the early rounds.

I am looking for a dominant performance from Lara and I think he will do enough to win over the course of 12 rounds, but I think he will have to overcome some adversity in the later rounds as a desperate Canelo comes forward and closes the gap, at some point Lara will have to exchange with Alvarez and it will be how he manages in those exchanges that will determine whether he wins this fight.

I see Lara priced up at 2/1 at Pinnacle and its certainly a fair price, but with my concerns about Lara waving in the second half of the fight I think it’s worth covering with Alvarez at 5/1 to win in rounds 7-12 at Ladbrokes.

Boxing Tipster’s Bets: £25 on Lara 2/1 Pinnacle, £10 on Alvarez 5/1 rounds 7-12 Ladbrokes.
