Ruslan Chagaev Vs Fres Oquendo – Preview, prediction and betting recommendation

Ruslan Chagaev Vs Fres Oquendo

Preview, prediction and betting recommendation

Not much action on this weekend as we are already looking ahead to a bumper packed and mouthwatering weekend next weekend, however there is a very meaningful heavyweight bout taking place in Russia as Ruslan Chagaev and Fres Oquendo battle it out for the WBA World heavyweight title, a title David Haye could be eyeing up on his comeback trail later this year.

We had an excellent weekend last weekend and are on the right path to turning this year right around and I certainly feel there is some value to be had in Grozny, Russia this weekend.

Neither heavyweight I would regard as being amongst the very top crop of heavyweights in a current poor division in terms of quality, Chagaev has fallen short on both occasions he has stepped up against elite opposition in Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin.

Oquendo you could say has been very unlucky to have 7 losses on his record when you actually dissect those losses, nearly all of them have been very close on the scorecards losing split decisions to James Toney and Oliver McCall and giving Jean Marc Mormeck and Evander Holyfield close bouts.

In his two stoppage losses he was very much well in the fight on both occasions, ahead against David Tua and only narrowly down against John Ruiz at time of stoppage.

Chagaev goes in as a heavy favourite at 1/7 and with the bout being in Russia you can understand why he is the favourite, however I think 1/7 is a little off the mark and i see this as a much closer fight than the bookmakers do, I think Fres Oquendo can cause Chagaev some problems and gives him all he can handle.

This bout is on Sunday evening starting 7pm on Boxnation and I am going to have a nibble on Oquendo who can be had at 13/2 Bet365, i recommend the play is made at Bet365 as you are then covered on the draw if it should happen.

Boxing Tipster’s Bet: £20 on Oquendo 13/2 Bet365
