Preview, predictions and betting tips for Echo Arena undercard fights

(Joshua, Ogogo, Campbell, Fielding & Smith Bro’s)

A cracking line up at the Echo Arena with many of Britain’s finest prospects featuring, however if you are looking for 50/50 fights then the Echo Arena may not be the venue for it this weekend with most of the fights what you could call showcase fights.

However I still think there’s some value to had this weekend despite the fact all the British fighters are heavy favourites.

Anthony Joshua Vs Matt Skelton

Joshua makes an appropriate step up against experienced veteran Matt Skelton, Skelton in his hay day fought for a world title and won Commonwealth and British heavyweight titles, however at 46 while those days are well past him, he is experienced and aggressive and this is a good little test for Joshua one in which I expect him to come through with flying colours.

There is some value to be had in this one but it is high risk, Ladbrokes have Joshua to win in rounds 3-4 priced up at 4/1 while they also have Joshua to win in rounds 5-8 at 7/1, I think its good to play both, this means if Skelton gets past the first 2 rounds we are staring face first at profit providing the unthinkable does not happen.

Boxing Tipster’s bets: £10 in Joshua rounds 3-4 4/1 Ladbrokes, £5 on Joshua rounds 5-8 7/1 Ladbrokes

anthony ogogo

Anthony Ogogo Vs Wayne Reed

Olympic bronze medallist Anthony Ogogo continues his pro career with a modest six rounder against Wayne Reed, 10 wins and 8 losses in 18 contests with 4 stoppage losses, he took Rocky Fielding to the 6th round last year before being stopped and  went the distance with Eamonn Okane in a six rounder in 2012 so he has been in with a decent enough level domestically.

Ogogo should however eclipse Fielding or Okane in anything he does in his career as he has massive potential with an entertaining style that could most certainly sell, but he is still learning the pro ranks and currently has 3 stoppage victories in 6 fights.

There is no chance of Ogogo losing this fight its just about how he wins the fight, I expect him to get the stoppage but at the same time would not be surprised if it goes the distance as it is just a six rounder.

Betvictor are offering 10/3 on Ogogo to win by decision and I think its worth a play at those odds.

Boxing Tipster’s Bet: £15 on Ogogo by decision 10/3 Betvictor

luke campbell

Luke Campbell Vs Craig Woodruff

Luke Campbell returns to the ring following a 5 month break after his father fell ill and he will be looking to get straight back to business in a six rounder against Craig Woodruff who is a young man at 21.

Again there is no chance Campbell loses this fight it’s just about how he wins it and again in a six rounder I think there could be some value at 7/2 in it going the distance, it took Campbell 8 rounds to get 8-8 Scott Moises out of there and with the 5 month break it probably wouldn’t be a disaster for Campbell to get a few rounds in .

I dont think Campbell is a big puncher and Woodruff has some ability he beat diminished but still experienced Carl Johanneson back in 2012 and has one stoppage loss (4th round TKO) to Martin Ward.

Again I expect Campbell to get the stoppage but at 7/2 for a Campbell decision, I feel there is value to be had there.

Boxing Tipster’s Bet: £20 on Campbell by decision 7/2 Betvictor

Rocky Fielding Vs Noe Gonzalez Alcoba

Rocky Fielding has proven himself to be a force at domestic level since his prizefighter win and he is now taking another step against Noe Gonzalez Alcoba, Alcoba is no mug he has fought at a much higher level than Fielding and has only lost to world class opposition in Adonis Stevenson, Felix Sturm and George Groves.

He also has decent pop with 22 whacks from 30 victories and I think Fielding is in a competitive fight here and it wouldn’t surprise me if he has his hands full this weekend.

Amazingly Alcoba can be had at 12/1 at Bet365 that is way off the mark for me and has to be played, Fielding has heavy hands and could go out there and stop his man early that wouldn’t surprise me either but Alcoba should prove a test and at 12/1 I will take my chances.

Boxing tipster’s bet: £10 on Alcoba to win 12/1 Bet365

Stephen Smith Vs Pedro Navarrete

Stephen Smith takes on Pedro Navarrete in an 8 rounder, Navarrete while he doesnt have the best record on paper with 28 wins and 18 losses he is a tough out and has been in with a decent level of opposition, Mikey Garcia, Miguel Roman, Arash Usmanee.

I think Smith goes the distance in a unanimous win and Bet365 are offering up 2/1 on Smith to win by decision and I like those odds, there is risk he gets the stoppage but Mikey Garcia couldn’t stop this man in 8 rounds and with only two stoppage losses in 18 losses I think there is a high chance it goes the distance and Smith will have to go some to get his man out of there.

Boxing Tipster’s bet: £25 on Smith by decision 2/1 Bet365

Callum Smith  Vs Vladine Biosse

Callum Smith takes on Vladine Biosse who is his last fight went 10 rounds with Jeon Love before the ref waved the fight off after he took beating round after round but the guy showed his toughness in that bout no question.

I wont be betting this fight, I highly fancy Smith to get the stoppage but can’t really pin point whether it will be in the first half of the fight or the second and with odds of just evens in the round group betting for rounds 1-5 I just dont see the value in making a play in that market
