PBC – Selby Vs Montiel and Alexander Vs Martinez – Previews and Predictions

A midweek treat for boxing fans as the premier boxing champions platform returns on Wednesday night in Arizona, United States, the card will feature Wales very own newly crowned IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby, who faces veteran Mexican Fernando Montiel.

The card also features the return of Devon Alexander as he looks to come back from his defeat to Amir Khan last year, he will face Aaron Martinez.

Lee Selby Vs Fernando Montiel

Selby spreads his wings stateside under the guidance of the powerful Al Haymon, the IBF featherweight champion will face former three division world champion Fernando Montiel.

Montiel now a 36 year old veteran of the sport began his career at the age of 16 years old, winning world titles at Flyweight, Super Flyweight and Bantamweight and will be looking to make that four divisions this Wednesday night.

Montiel in his prime was an agile, intelligent fighter with quick reflexes, however after a long 20 year career his best days are behind him and he will be facing an uphill task against a much bigger man in Lee Selby, a man with an exceptional array of skill, who is hitting his peak.

Lee Selby already big for a featherweight will have size, height and reach advantage and on top of that has so much natural ability, an exceptional talent, the only way Selby possibly loses this fight is if he somehow freezes on his American debut.

I don’t believe that will happen and I fully expect a dominant Lee Selby to hand Fernando Montiel the second stoppage loss of his career around the mid to late rounds, you can get 8/13 on him doing just that, best price with Ladbrokes.

However I am going to take the 4/5 being offered by Sky Bet on the fight going under 10 rounds.

BETTING TIPS: £25 on under 10 rounds 4/5 Sky Bet

Devon Alexander Vs Aaron Martinez

Former two weight world champion Devon Alexander looks to get back into contention in the welterweight division following being comprehensively out-boxed by Amir Khan in December of last year.

Alexander has a number of good names on his resume including Lucas Matthysse, Marcos Maidana but has fallen short when fighting fighters more closer to the top of the pile, including Shawn Porter, Timothy Bradley and Amir Khan who have all handed Alexander a taste of defeat.

He will face battle tested Mexican Aaron Martinez who is coming in off the back of a very good performance against Robert Guerrero in which he lost a controversial split decision, Martinez had Guerrero down in the 4th and was on the brink of stopping the former world champion but faded late and lost it on the cards.

Now this is going to be a controversial pick, Martinez is over matched here but he is an absolutely huge 25/1 on the exchanges at matchbook.com,  he is a rugged guy who will bring pressure, this fight should certainly be more competitive than a 25/1  dog type fight.

However I still expect Alexander to win wide on the cards or possibly by late stoppage, but 25/1 on Martinez has to be taken on value.

BETTING TIP: £5 on Martinez to win at 25/1 Matchbook.
