Paul Smith Vs Tony Dodson – 29th June 2013

Bolton Arena, Bolton, Lancashire, United Kingdom

vacant BBBofC British super middleweight title

Back in 2010 these two fought a fairly competitive bout, although Smith did enough to claim a unanimous victory, Dodson was docked a point in the 10th which perhaps made the scorecards look a little more convincing than perhaps Dodson deserved, however it is worth noting Smith had to deal with a cut as early as the 1st round.

Prior to their bout in 2010 they both fought a competent Tony Quigley, Smith won his bout with Quigley via split decision, Dodson was stopped in the last round of his bout with Quigley with many having him ahead on the scorecards.

I don’t see either fighter as legitimate world title contenders but as very good domestic to fringe European level fighters, and this bout happens to be for the Vacant British title.

Interestingly Dodson is up as big as 5/1 while Smith is 1/4 odds on favourite, while i have no argument with Smith being the favourite i just don’t see Smith should be that high and i see this as a far more competitive bout than the odds suggest and most definitely a fight that could go wrong for Smith.

While Smith is brave and unquestionably has heart i don’t see him as a real sturdy fighter and i see a vulnerability with Smith, if Dodson brings his A game i don’t see why he cannot spring the upset.
