Orlando Salido Vs Orlando Cruz– 12th October 2013

Location – Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

WBO featherweight Title

I am personally looking really forward to this one, at 32 years old Salido has been going for the best part of 20 years turning professional at just 15 years old. As a very young man he had to learn the hard way and was beaten just as often as winning early on and it can make his career record look a little illusive.

However Salido has learnt some tricks along the way and really has become a little beast with a tough resilience and nothing seems to deter him from coming forward and bringing it , since 2001 he has never been stopped and has only been beaten by the top guys, more recently Mickey Garcia (who we now know is the number one in the division) and Gamboa who is an exceptional talent.

Cruz was a very good amateur and has quick hands with a touch of illusiveness about him, however while he has skills he has early stoppage losses to both Daniel Ponce De Leon and the less established Corneluis Lock.

I see this as perhaps another step too far for Cruz, while he may be able to use his speed to get him out of some nooks and crannies i don’t see him keeping Salido off him for 12 rounds and i fancy Salido to penetrate Cruz’s resolve at some point in this fight, Salido is only 8/15 to get the KO/TKO and i can see why the bookmakers are playing it this way.

However Paddy Power have Salido at 3/1 to find the stoppage in rounds 1-6 i think it might be worth a small play it might be tight and i can certainly see this fight going into the later rounds i just feel the odds are good enough to take the risk.

ATR’s Bet – £25 Salido rounds 1-6 3/1 paddy power
