Nonito Donaire Vs Vic Darchinyan – 9th November 2013

Location – American Bank Centre, Corpus Christi, Texas USA

This is a rematch of a fight that took place in 2007, a fight Donaire won by a one punch knockout in the 5th round. However things have changed since that fight the bout in 2007 was contested for Darchinyan’s IBF Flyweight Title whereas this fight is taking place 4 weight divisions higher and both will fight at featherweight for the first time.

Darchinyan was somewhat a beast at flyweight and even super fly, however he hasn’t seemed to be the same fighter since moving to 118 and above. However he always brings relentless pressure that can wear an opponent down and his southpaw stance can be problematic for an unadjusted opponent.

Donaire is coming off the back of a loss to slick cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux, he did drop Rigondeaux in the 10th but was dominated for large parts of that fight. He will be the bigger guy in this fight and has explosive punching power, quick hands and superb countering ability.

Darchinyan will be game as usual and will come forward and try and swarm Donaire but Donaire is a guy that can handle aggressive pressure and being the bigger man it will be difficult for Darchinyan to really impose himself on Donaire.

I expect Donaire to be able to land many big shots on Darchinyan and while he may not land a one punch knockout again, the clean and accurate shots will take there toll and i expect Donaire to have his man out of there by the 8th round.

Donaire is 8/15 for the KO/TKO which is a little stingy for me given Darchinyan’s credentials, however the under 8.5 rounds market appeals, which is priced up at 10/11.

It is possible this fight goes the distance but i think at pretty much even money the under 8.5 is viable and that is where my money will be on this one, for information this is a 10 round fight.
