Mike Alvarado Vs Ruslan Provodnikov – 19th October 2013

1STBANK Center, Broomfield, Denver, Colorado, USA

WBO light welterweight title

This has the potential to turn into a real slug fest of a fight, Provodnikov came within a whisker of stopping Timothy Bradley in his last fight and looked like a really dangerous puncher and pressure fighter with high octane.

While quite rightly Provodnikov received accolades for such a performance i do believe Bradley got himself in a right mess right from the first bell in that fight and fought totally the wrong fight, he had the tools to win a shutout in that fight instead he opted to win a high stakes shootout. Lessons were learned last week.

Alvarado is also built on the reputation as a puncher, however i see him as a boxer – puncher type and he has dimensions and options available to adapt to differing circumstances in the ring and can mix it up on the inside or box at range utilising the jab. Also his stamina, chin and resilience is one of the best in the business, Alvarado will throw as many punches as is required, make no mistake.

Provodnikov is relentless with pressure and is very difficult to deter he likes to walk his opponents down and land bombs however at times his defence is non existent, however he looks to have a real toughness about him and would most likely be a tough out for even the biggest punchers.

I like Alvarado in this fight as i see him as the guy with more dimensions and also a guy who can match fire with fire when the firefights happen and when he needs to and is forced to in the fight. Provodnkov will always be dangerous while he is upright but i think if Alvarado can be smart he should be able to get clear enough win on the cards in this one.

The bookmakers have this a close to even money fight and Alvarado can be had at 10/11 down at pinnacle and i think that’s a very generous price on a fighter of Alvarado’s ability.

ATR’s Bet – £50 on Alvarado 10/11 Pinnacle (bet is refunded in the event of a draw at Pinnacle)
