Matt Skelton Vs John McDermott – 15/3/13

Location – York Hall, Bethnal Green, London UK

Interesting British Heavyweight bout here, both are recent David Price victims, McDermott losing by a first round stoppage and Skelton by a 2nd round, however Skelton did put it on Price a couple of times which raised questions regarding Prices defence which were then perhaps answered by Tony Thompson.

Skelton likes to adopt a high pressure style and he is fairly quick for a 46 year old veteran, he was active in 2012 taking on 4 fights and winning 3 bouts by TKO so the old man has still got something, he actually beat a young McDermott with a 1st round stoppage back in 2005 and although relevant to this bout that was then and this is now and Skelton was much more Primed back then whilst McDermott didnt quite have the same level of experience at that level as he has now.

He might not quite look it, with his rather chunky physique but McDermott is actually more of a boxer type than a slugger type heavyweight, he actually unoffically beat Tyson Fury over 10 rounds back in 2009 but Terry O’Conner robbed him of that scalp with awful scoring of the fight.

I see this as a 50/50 fight Skelton perhaps with their 2005 clash in the back of his mind may come quick off the stall and try and put it on McDermott but i dont think he will find the same guy in front of him i think he will have a more experienced and more skilled guy who will be able to come through the high pressure and find some rythym with his boxing.

As stated i see this as a 50/50 clash as such i feel McDermotts odds represent really decent value especially 8/1 for a McDermott decision an outcome i see just as likely as any other outcome to happen in the fight therefore i am going to be brave here and try and nail some really notable profit.
