Martin Murray Vs Sergio Martinez – 27th April 2013

Location – Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires, Argentina

WBC middleweight title

Sergio Martinez returns to fight in his home country Argentina for the first time in 11 years, and as an always ever entertaining fighter i expect this to be a real good fight against a much younger and hungry fighter in Martin Murray.

Martinez adopts a hands down style and relies on his athleticism, movement and reflexes, tools that have always served Martinez well as he has always been able to nip and tuck his way in and out with fluent movement, and coupled with the fact Martinez can bang has propelled him to the top of Elite boxing and the middleweight division.

Murray served a prison term which hampered his rise to top level boxing, Although Murray believes that time in his life will serve him well in this fight. Murray can count himself unlucky not to already by a world champion when he fought Felix Sturm for the WBA belt in 2011 a fight that was declared a draw however a fight that Murray appeared to win.

Murray is a talented fighter that can box well and also brings educated pressure, he throws solid combinations and will work his opponents body and wear them down, also i believe he punches with more meaning than his KO percentage suggests.

I believe this is a fight Murray can win, it certainly will not be easy in Martinez’s backyard however Murray is tough, determined and hungry, he will come forward and as Martinez ages i believe his stamina is becoming more and more detrimental to him, this is where Murray can capitalise.

Of course the risk is Martinez even at 38 still has decent speed, reflexes and could outbox the slower Murray, i expect Martinez to start well but Murray to come on strong in the second half of the fight and i will not rule out a stoppage for Murray is he can really crank it up in the latter stages.

Murray is 11/2 at sporting bet i think that is a generous price and i am going to make a really small play on Murray to pull of a real upset.
