Fight Preview and Betting Recommendation

Following 2 straight defeats Manny Pacquiao looks to reignite the flame and prove he is still a Boxing force to be reckoned with against tough, strong and heavy handed American Brandon Rios, who himself comes into the fight off the back of a loss to Mike Alvarado.

There is many who believe that Manny Pacquiao is now in the twilight of his career, he has faded to a shadow of his former self, and that he is now at risk against the best fighters in the division. I am not one of them. Firstly i do not believe Brandon Rios is one of the best fighters in the division, he may just scrape into the top ten but there are many fighters out there who beat Brandon Rios.

Secondly if you analyse Manny Pacquiao’s two defeats closely, there is not enough substance to suggest the above claims, The fight against Bradley was a win, it may not be official but it was a clear win and everyone know’s it.

Now that win is looking like a very good one considering how Timothy Bradley has performed since, wins against Ruslan Provodnikov (who is looking like a real beast) and a deserved win against Juan Manuel Marquez has elevated Bradley to the very top of the division.

The fight against Marquez; you can etch a question mark over Pacquiao’s chin and punch resistance but that’s always been the case with Pacquiao for me, Pacquiao has never had a granite chin nor was Marquez the first to stop or even drop Pacquiao.

In the fight with Marquez, Pacquiao despite looking to have regained control and on his way to a stoppage win himself, got caught with a brutal shot by one of the best counter punchers in the business, its boxing and it happens.

Pacquiao’s hand speed, foot speed, elite movement and technique should be on prominent display in this one, against a guy who i feel is tailor made for a Manny Pacquiao master class, Rio’s knows only one way in a boxing ring and that is forward, in fact there are some similarities to Ricky Hatton a fighter who Pacquiao destroyed inside 2 rounds back in 2009.

Rio’s will be the bigger guy, most likely the stronger guy but he will also be the slower guy, the guy with far less dimensions and while Rio’s is as tough as they come, Pacquiao looks in great shape for this one and will most likely begin landing big shots at will and while it may take a few chops of the axe to to turn Rio’s usual wry smile into something more vexed.

Eventually by the middle rounds i can see a man in a boxing ring who will be looking like he’s just had his face tickled frequently with an immersion blender, that man i believe will be Brandon Rios.

Of course Rio’s is powerful and very heavy handed so you can never rule out the “puncher’s” chance, but for me that’s all Rios has and if Pacquiao does lose this fight then it must be the end but i still think Manny Pacquiao is up there with the best in the division and will have far to much ability to be caught often by Rios.

Ladbrokes have some bets in the round group betting market i like for this fight, they have Manny Pacquaio 1-6 at 5/2 and Manny Pacquaio 5-8 at 10/3, both i think are nice bets at decent odds.

The way i am going to bet this is i am going to straddle the two, with £20 on the Pacquiao in rounds 1-6 at 5/2 with £15 Pacquiao in rounds 5-8 at 10/3, this means if Pacquiao stops Rios anytime in rounds 1-8 i make some nice profit, however if the stoppage occurs in rounds 5-8 then its a big win.
