Leo Santa Cruz Vs Cristian Mijares

Fight preview and betting recommendation

Santa Cruz is hot young property with his gung-ho style that nearly always leads to entertaining fights, he defends his WBC super-bantamweight title against veteran southpaw Cristian Mijares.

Fellow Mexican Mijares a former world champion himself has been fighting since he was 15 years and saw his best days at 115 pounds where he captured the WBC and IBF world titles, he has experience can box and has underrated pop.

Santa Cruz is high volume, high octane stuff, he is big for a 122 and his size and strength allows him to really impose himself on his opponents, you would have to favour him to swarm Mijares and get him out of there at some point.

But i feel the veteran is underrated here, odds as big as 10/1 on Mijares seem extremely generous and while i concede its a massive task for Mijares i dont think its an impossible one.

Santa Cruz got a clear win against Cesar Seda (another southpaw) in his last fight, but he was not convincing and a scorecard of 115-112 was reasonable, it may be that Mijares can also be competitive in this fight.

This reminds me a little of the Abner Mares Vs Jhonny Gonzalez bout last year Mares was hot property and unbeaten at the time and no one gave Gonzalez a chance, but he proved that sometimes fights are not always as clear cut as they seem.

I am going to have a nibble of Mijares at 10/1, of course i favour Santa Cruz but the odds are too good on Mijares for me not to have a small shot at it.
