Lee Selby Vs Rendall Munroe – Fight preview and betting recommendation

Lee Selby Vs Rendall Munroe

Fight preview and boxing betting recommendation

15 months ago Rendall Munroe retired from boxing following a loss to now super bantam-weight world title holder Scott Quigg in November 2012, the boxing binman by day had failed to fulfil his dream of becoming a world champion and decided to hang up the gloves.

Munroe highlighted how timing in boxing is everything. having beaten two opponents in his career who went on to become world champions in Kiko Martinez and Victor Terraza, perhaps Rendall Munroe was worthy of that status but things just didnt fall in place at the right time for him, losing his only shot at a world title on points to Toshiaki Nishioka in Japan.

It didnt take long for Munroe to get that boxing buzz back again returning to the ring just 6 months later and following 3 straight wins against soft opposition he now founds himself fighting Lee Selby for the European and British featherweight belts – that escalated quickly.

Selby has already been dubbed as ‘The Welsh Mayweather’ which is perhaps a little disproportionate considering how often he seems to get touched, Selby has good fluent boxing skills and ring intelligence, he has perhaps more pop than his 33% KO record suggests. Selby can start slow as he likes to analyse his opponent, however once he finds his rhythm he can really begin to dominate his opponent and pick his shots.

In Munroe, Selby is facing a highly experienced opponent who has fought at the highest level. Munroe is an offensive fighter and likes to come forward throwing and will work the body well, with Munroe there is no real set style or rhythm and he can  be quite raw on the front foot, for that reason i can see Selby having some issues figuring Munroe.

Many believe this is an easy fight for Selby, I strongly disagree with those opinions, I believe we have a close fight on our hands, i favour Selby being the younger fresher guy with the momentum flowing, however i certainly won’t be spitting my beverage out if Munroe gets his hand raised Saturday night.

It’s difficult to anticipate which Munroe will turn up on Saturday, has he still got the heart for the game. Given the fact this is a massive opportunity for him i would say we will see a highly motivated Munroe this weekend.

If i was to make a prediction i would say Selby by decision, but a narrow one.

I think the fact the bookmakers have the Selby KO prop at odds on, it opens the door for a straddle bet on the Selby decision and Munroe outright which has a high chance of being profitable, Munroe is 9/2 at Pinnacle to just win and a Selby decision is 11/4 , that is really good value if you ask me.

Boxing Tipster Bet’s – £20 on Selby by decision 11/4 stan james and £20 on Munroe 9/2 outright Pinnacle
