Lamont Peterson Vs Kendall Holt – 22nd February

Location – DC Armory, Washington, District of Columbia, USA

IBF Light welterweight title

Peterson defends his IBF light welterweight, a belt that some could quite rightly argue should belong to Amir Khan after Peterson got caught with his hands in the cookie jar, he served a suspension and hasnt fought since he shocked Khan back in December of 2011, however hes back now in his first title defence.

He faces big puncher Kendall Holt who is a former WBO Light welterweight champion himself, until he came up against Timoity Bradley back in 2009, since then he has gone 3-2 losing to pressure fighter Kaizer Mabuza and fellow big puncher Danny Garcia.

I like Peterson is this fight and i will explain why, Peterson is a great pressure fighter who can swarm his opponents on the inside and has a never say die attitude, he can be dropped but he has a real resilience about him in the way he can shake big shots off and keep on coming back.

Holt is a guy who likes to dictate the pace of a fight so he can pick and time his shots with his speed, with Holt i believe the slower the pace of the fight the more he is in his comfort zone, with Petersons pressure i believe he will find himself in situations he is just not comfortable with.

Peterson isnt a huge puncher but he has enough to keep a fighter modest and i believe he could wear Holt down to submission in this fight, however saying that Holts power is always going to be dangerous and this makes this fight i real difficult fight to play.

The favoured outcome with the bookies is a Peterson decision 4/5, i dont really like that play too much as i dont think it offers too much value however a Peterson decision is more than possible, however you can get 3/1 on a Peterson KO/TKO and 7/1 on a Holt KO/TKO, straddle these two and i think you have a fairly decent play on your hands.

ATR’s Bet – £30 on Peterson by KO/TKO 3/1 bet365, £10 on Holt by KO/TKO 7/1 Betvictor
