Kell Brook Vs Kevin Bizier – Preview and Prediction

Kell Brook will defend his IBF world welterweight title against mandatory challenger, Canadian Kevin Bizier at the Sheffield Arena this weekend. It is not the big fight boxing fans would like to see Brook involved in but it is a compulsory task if Brook wants to retain his world champion status.

With Amir Khan fighting Canelo Alvarez on May 7 and the likes of Shawn Porter and Keith Thurman locking heads stateside it looks like Brook may have to travel to the US if he wants to fight the bigger names in the division.

I am hearing reports the Sheffield Arena is far from a sell out this weekend, and that appears to remain the biggest problem for Brook in attracting the big names to these shores.

Brook has faced criticism for the level of opposition he has faced to date, the fact Bizier has lost two split decisions to Jo Jo Dan, a fighter that quite frankly looked poor and out of his depth against Brook a year ago does not help the case, Brook dismantled him with ease inside 4 rounds.

However I believe Bizier may present a tougher challenge for Brook than Jo Jo Dan, he is a pressure fighter with a solid dig and a nice body shot in his armory and I believe he is much more rugged and durable than Jo Jo Dan was. Styles make fights.

Bizier however is up against one of the best jabs in the business in Kell Brook, Brook is a crisp accurate puncher with superb timing and power and while he is yet to prove himself against elite opposition I still believe him to be one of the best welterweights in the world right now.

I don’t believe Bizier has enough about him to cause Brook any real issues this weekend, but I expect a better showing than Jo Jo Dan provided last year and he may take longer to break down.

I am going for a Brook mid round to late stoppage maybe somewhere around the 7th-8th round. It is a difficult one to bet because the outright market has Brook 1/100 and Brook by KO/TKO 2/9, far too short.

This leaves us delving into the under/over round and round group betting markets looking for value, this could be tight but I like the 9/4 being offered up by sky bet on Brook to win the fight between rounds 7-12.
