Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Vs Brian Vera – 28th September 2013

Carson, California, USA

Chavez Jr makes his first appearance back in the ring since he was convincingly outboxed by Sergio Martinez last year and then was well publicised for failing a drugs test when he tested positive for Marijuana following that bout.

He notoriously struggles to make weight for fights and this fight was settled at 173 despite being originally agreed at 163. And Chavez for me looked weight drained at the weigh in and had a real struggle to get down.

Vera is a real inconsistent fighter he has put in some lacklustre shows, but when hes game he is really game and can upset the apple cart when he’s on it, and i get a sneaky feeling that this could be one of those nights when Vera shows up and doesnt entirely read the script and i can see him giving a weight drained Chavez Jr a few issues.

Vera tends to have a struggle with the more technical types, and he tends to perform better in a tear up type bout and Vera and Chavez will most likely found each other more often than not and while Chavez is heavy favourite for a reason; as he is better fighter, i am still giving Vera a shot given the circumstances leading to this fight and looking at the weigh in.

It may be that i am way off but Vera my find a big but somewhat weakened Chavez in front of him come fight time and will be able have a real say in exchanges and keep himself in the fight throughout, Chavez has had some real leg ups on scorecards in the past, if it goes the distance perhaps just perhaps it could come back round.
