Juan Manuel Marquez Vs Timothy Bradley – 12th October 2013

Location – Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

WBO Welterweight Title

This is one i have swayed back and forth on, it really is one of those fights that i could see a few different scenarios playing out and the bookmakers are probably about right seeing this as close to an even money fight.

Marquez is up there as one of the best counter punchers in the business, he has been underrated for large portions of his career, he packs a devastating straight right counter and has dispatched 65% of his opponents to date to indicate his high level of power, however he is not getting any younger at 40 years old.

Bradley is much younger and fresher he really is a fine tuned athlete with the stamina and will to match the chisel. He has fast hands, adopts a high work rate and can box, however unlike his opponent he doesn’t have that one punch knockout power.

Bradley had to overcome a shootout against tough and hard hitting Russian Ruslin Provodnikov in his last fight, he had to suck up a lot of punishment to come through with W, while that fight was a testament to his will and heart you do wonder whether that fight took something from Bradley, it certainly showed his chin isn’t made of rock.

Marquez finally got his win over Manny Pacquiao last year, however some would argue he had been unlucky to not already have a V on Manny after matching him in 3 previous bouts one being a draw. Physically he almost appears at his peak and looks extremely strong for a 40 year old.

I do see this as a fairly even match up; the older but exceptional experienced counter puncher with stoppage power against the younger, athletic champion with a big heart , however i have to give the edge to Marquez because i figure while Bradley may work some rounds in the bank Marquez has the boxing skills to match Bradley and the power to really hurt him, and i feel this will be the differece between the two.

I am going to back Marquez to get the win, with a slice on the KO/TKO, however i recommend protecting with a play on the draw on this one.

ATR’s Bet – £50 on Marquez 4/5 William Hill, £10 on Marquez by KO/TKO 3/1 Ladbrokes, £5 on the draw 31/1 youwin.
