Juan Manuel Marquez Vs Mike Alvarado

[yop_poll id=”10″]

Juan Manuel Marquez takes on Mike Alvarado in what could be a scintillating clash, the winner puts themselves in the frame for a fight with Manny Pacquiao, both are looking to bounce back from damaging losses.

Alvarado received an accumulative beat down from Ruslan Provodnikov following a very good win against Brandon Rios, while Marquez was out slicked by Timothy Bradley.

The odds are interesting for this bout with Marquez at 4/9 and Alvarado at 9/4, and in honesty i would have thought Marquez would be more odds on than that. I guess it is felt at some point Marquez has to start showing his age, and against Bradley there were signs.

Alvarado is coming in after back to back wars with Brandon Rios through 2012-2013 and a run up against a beast in Ruslan Provodnikov later on in 2013, and that wasn’t pretty.

Alvarado is extremely tough and rugged and he likes to come forward, but he is somewhat a boxer-brawler type and can box smart when that is what is required, he is a dangerous puncher with a big heart.

Marquez is amongst the top batch of elite fighters of recent times for me, even at 40 he looks in good condition and is able to switch gears quickly enough, Marquez is an elite counter puncher one of the best in the business and for me unless he has completely aged overnight, there is a gulf in class here.

I like Alvarado, he is a talented fighter with a bravery i admire immensely but its that bravery and his style that has led him into wars and it can be a fighters style that determines the length of their career, and this may be controversial, it depends how you see it – but i think Mike Alvarado may be a little shot and i just dont like him in this fight.

I see this as a bad style match up for Mike Alvarado who often fights with his heart, he comes forward and takes risks and against one of the best counter punchers in the business who also possesses plenty of pop i fancy him to get caught at some point and i think he is at a place in his career now where he may just ‘go’.

I see a Marquez KO/TKO priced up at 10/3 at Paddy Power and i am going to take a reasonable stab at it at that price as i like the value in it, the method market hasn’t really opened up properly yet and if you hold out you may get a better price than 10/3, but i don’t think you will and i think Paddy are being very generous with that price.

This fight could easily go the distance but at the same time it easily couldn’t, and if it doesn’t i think it will be because Marquez has landed.

Boxing Tipster’s Bet: £30 on Marquez by KO/TKO 10/3 Paddy Power
