George Groves Vs Denis Douglin

Preview, Prediction and Betting Tip.

George Groves will take on American Denis Douglin this weekend on Sky Sports Pay Per View, Douglin had some success as an amateur winning the National Golden Gloves middleweight title amongst other amateur titles. He is trained by his mother hence his nick name ‘Momma’s Boy’ and as a youngster was highly touted as a decent prospect given his amateur performances.

However at 26 he has already lost 3 professional bouts and is currently 17-3-0, the concerning thing for Douglin is other than Jermell Charlo who stopped him in 5 rounds, he has lost to 3rd tier opposition, he was actually stopped in 3 rounds by 14-17-1 fighter Doel Carrasqullio back in 2011.

Douglin has campaigned at light middleweight and middleweight for the majority of his career and will be stepping up to super middleweight against a guy who can seriously bang at that weight. For me this is like sending a lamb into the slaughter and I fully expect Groves to demolish Douglin inside six rounds.

Douglin may have won titles at amateur level and while he does the basics passably he looks a bit of a slow plodder and Groves speed, skill and power will overwhelm the American.

The good news is Sky Bet have under 6 rounds at evens for this fight and that looks like a gift to me.

Prediction: Groves KO 4

Boxing Tipster’s Bet: £25 on under 6 rounds at evens Sky Bet
