George Groves Vs Christopher Rebrasse

Preview, Prediction and Betting Tip

Its the return of The Saint George Groves as he looks to get back in contention for a World Title shot following his crushing defeat to Carl Froch back in May.

He will face French European title holder and #3 WBC ranked Christopher Rebrasse, on the line is Rebrasse’s European title and the vacant WBC silver super middleweight title. However more importantly the winner will be in line for a shot at Anthony Dirrell’s world title.

Groves will surely carry some mental scars into the ring following a crushing knockout defeat to Carl Froch in May, It will be interesting to see how well he starts the fight, he may need time to warm into this one and regain some confidence.

Rebrasse is a decent solid fighter who appears to do all the basics very well, as his record indicates he is not a big puncher, however I think he punches harder than a 22% KO ratio may tell you.

Defensively Rebrasse keeps things tight, his foot movement is not the best and can appear a little sluggish. Thats something the faster and crafty Groves can take full advantage off.

For a lighter puncher Rebrasse handles himself well on the inside and my only real concern for Groves is he gets dragged into more of a tear up type fight and stays in the pocket longer than he needs to. If he does that Rebrasse could clip him, Groves is hittable.

However I think Groves is vastly more talented than his opponent and I would be very surprised if he does not overcome what’s in front of him this weekend. Despite his two losses to Froch I still believe Groves is one of the most talented fighters in the UK at the moment and I think at some point he will become a World Champion.

I think he will need to unlock Rebrasse’s tight guard and while it still could happen, I am not expecting Groves to go in and blast his man out this weekend I think he will need to be patient, concentrate on the body and try and bring Rebrasse’s guard down.

Groves is 1/3 to find a stoppage which carries no value, I am expecting a late Groves stoppage somewhere around 7-9 and Ladbrokes have 7-12 at 2/1, I think that’s  playable. Also I noticed Groves to be knocked down at 14/1 Paddy Power I think at those generous odds that has to played in case Groves does get clipped.

Boxing Tipster’s Bet: £20 on George Groves 7-12 2/1 Ladbrokes, £5 on George Groves to be knocked down 14/1
