Joshua Vs Gavern & Simmons Vs Dickinson

Previews and Predictions.

Anthony Joshua Vs Jason Gavern

Anthony Joshua returns from a back injury that postponed a January 31st date with American Kevin Johnson earlier this year, in what was to be Joshua’s first step up fight. That fight is now rescheduled for May 30th and with no disrespect to Jason Gavern this is a warm up fight for Joshua to lead into his step up against Johnson.

Some will remember Gavern from his prizefighter appearance in 2013, in which he lost in the final to Michael Sprott. Gavern has a winning record with 26 wins and 19 losses, but in all honestly should prove little problem for the Olympic Gold Medallist, Joshua.

However Gavern did go 4 rounds with now WBC world champion Deontay Wilder last year so this may not be an early 1st round blast out win for Joshua and in fact it probably wouldn’t do Joshua any harm in getting in a couple of more rounds than he is usually accustomed too under his belt ready for next month.

In all honesty though I think Gavern may struggle to get out of the first 2 rounds in this one but with 7/4 on a Joshua 1st round KO and just 2/5 on Joshua rounds 1-2 there is little value there, Ladbrokes are offering 4/1 on Joshua KO/TKO in rounds 3-4, I think that is where the value is in this one.

BETTING TIP: £15 on Joshua rounds 3-4 4/1 Ladbrokes

Stephen Simmons Vs Jon Lewis Dickinson

Simmons comes in as the significant favourite in this one, which actually surprises me a little as I believe this could be a very close match up. Simmons while unbeaten did show flaws against Wadi Camacho and was out-boxed at times in that fight.

Stylistically I think this could be a problem fight for Simmons, I see Dickinson as the better technically of the two and I can see Dickinson out-boxing Simmons in periods of this fight.

The problem for Dickinson is he needs to keep this fight long and probably doesn’t have to power to keep Simmons modest for 10 rounds and as the fight progresses I expect Simmons power to come into play more and he may overwhelm late on.

This is a tough one, I think Simmons is rightly favourite but not by the margins the bookmakers have him, on that note I think Jon Lewis Dickson at 12/5 is a good value play, but I expect a close one here.

BETTING TIP: £20 on Jon Lewis Dickinson to win 12/5 Bet365
