Deontay Wilder Vs Artur Szpilka – Preview and Prediction

Deontay Wilder will make the 3rd defence of his WBC World heavyweight title against Artur Szpilka who will be aiming to become Poland’s first ever world heavyweight champion.

There is plenty on the line for these two fighters this weekend and the bout will feature live on Sky Sports from 3am, however will also be streamed for free live on Showtimes you tube channel.

Wilder will continue to come under criticism as this is seen as yet another soft defence by the boxing world, however while Wilder is yet to face an elite heavyweight, Szpilka is the best fighter he has faced to date in this writers opinion.

Two to three years ago Artur Szpilka was a soft, vulnerable looking heavyweight who was dropped by modest opposition but at the age of 26 he looks to have vastly improved over the last 2 years, and his physical stature has enhanced and he now looks much more solid.

Also Szpilka a former football hooligan is an awkward southpaw with an elusive style, he has excellent movement for a heavyweight which could cause Wilder some issues this weekend.

Wilder is a devastating puncher with a wild but effective offence, when he won the title against Bermaine Stiverne he displayed a disciplined boxing performance but ultimately he is best known for being a knockout artist.

This is a controversial pick to begin the new year but I actually think Szpilka is a live underdog in this one and may surpass expectations this weekend and put in a solid performance against the champion.

This is heavyweight boxing so anything can happen, Szpilka could be pole axed in the first round with Wilders power but I think this fight goes late and Szpilka is good value as a 7/1 underdog.

I think Wilder may come through this one with a late stoppage but I am certainly not writing Szpilka off, plenty of value to be had on Szpilka this weekend for me.
