Darren Hamilton v Adil Anwar – 6th July 2013

Location – Echo Arena, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom

BBBofC British light welterweight title

Hamilton was excellent at neutralising the capable Steve Williams in his last outing, many had Williams as favourite but Hamilton scored just shy of a shutout victory, he was always able to find Williams and beat him to the punch as Williams tried to close the gap.

However despite being tough Williams can be quite a straight forward fighter and he isn’t the fastest either, i think Williams was suitable for a guy like Hamilton who likes to keep a fight at his desired tempo and not have to deal with too many different situations as he plods about his business.

Hamilton was perhaps never expected to achieve the things he has achieved in boxing, winning the British title was never on the cards once upon a time but he changed his life around and found a new focus and motivation for boxing, coupled with proper training he sensationally beat Ashley Theophane a guy who came within a whisker of beating Danny Garcia, Hamilton was a 7/1 shot that night.

Anwar at 26 in my opinion is just starting to find his way and is improving with each outing he lost his second ever professional bout as a young 20 year old back in 2007 but since then has racked 18 straight victories and has handled competent domestic opposition along the way with relative ease, he also won Prizefighter last year.

I see Anwar as a guy with much more guile and craft to a guy like Steve Williams he moves extremely well, has quick hands and a very efficient jab and i figure he can cause Hamilton many problems.

Anwar is 13/2 to find a stoppage i think that is a good price in a 12 round fight as Hamilton while he seems sturdy has been stopped by a journeyman before.
Hamilton is 9/1 for the KO/TKO so it may be worth making a very small cover on Hamilton so effectively we are betting on the fight to not go the distance which is as small as 2/1 at some books so i think 13/2 and 9/1 are nice prices to play around with and offer value.

ATR’s Bet – £20 on Anwar by KO/TKO 13/2 and £5 on Hamilton by KO/TKO 9/1 both at Betfred
