Darren Barker Vs Felix Sturm – 7th December 2013

Fight preview and betting recommendation

Location -Porsche Arena, Stuttgart, Germany

IBF middleweight title

Darren Barker makes his first defence of the IBF middleweight title he won 4 months ago against Daniel Geale in Atlantic City. Geale as it happens had won the title of this weekends challenger Felix Sturm 12 month’s prior.

Barker an excellent amateur and commonwealth gold medalist, has had a rocky road outside of the ring as a professional. Plagued with injuries and personal issues, Barker’s journey to world champion status has certainly been bumpy.

However now i feel we are beginning to see the best of Darren Barker, and his potential is now finally being fulfilled, he looks a fighter with renowned confidence, he is fighting with spite and grit and the momentum is with Barker going into this fight.

Sturm once a formidable force and long time champ can not be underestimated, Sturm has been in with Elite fighters such as Oscar De La Hoya.

Sturm has a fantastic jab but his overall style i feel has become more robotic as he has aged and with a significant drop in workrate i think there is blueprint there on how to beat Sturm and Barker has the tools to win clear enough for me.

I think this is Barker’s fight to lose and he can outclass his opponent this weekend. We have seen some strange scoring in Sturms backyard before so while we can consider handicapping other factors such as judges, for me if Barker performs to the same level he did against Geale he wins the fight taking place in the ring and that’s where my money is going this weekend.

It could be close and with it being in Germany this is a fight you certainly want to be covering the draw scenario in, so make sure you do.
