Darleys Perez Vs Anthony Crolla – Preview & Prediction

Anthony Crolla will make an emotional return to the ring following a head injury that nearly ended his career, Crolla was hit over the head with a concrete slab as he tried to intervene after he spotted burglars fleeing from his neighbours house.Originally scheduled to fight Richar Abril for the same title he will now face tough Columbian Darleys Perez who has now been elevated from interim to hold the title. This will be Perez first defence.

Perez is an underrated fighter who is calculated, patient and smart. Perez also carries dangerous power and has a sneaky left hook on him that could turn things around at any time, it is going to take incredible discipline and the performance of his career as Crolla takes a step up in class here.

Crolla has bounced back from adversity in his career already, suffering defeat early in his career and on the domestic stage he bounced back from defeats against Derry Mathews and Gary Sykes (Prizefighter) to record solid wins against John Murray, Gavin Rees and Stephen Foster.

While dubbed a world title most hardcore boxing fans will know that the WBA have two world title versions a Regular and a Super World and the Super World is the true champion of their division. However if Crolla wins this weekend you will find it hard to argue the status of the belt as it will be one of boxing’s fairy tale stories.

Following Crolla’s defeat to Derry Mathews he looked destined for domestic, European level but dusted himself off and put in some very impressive performances to propel himself back into the mix.

While I want nothing more than to see a heroic performance from Anthony Crolla this weekend I have to put aside the emotional factors involved and base my pick on how I see it from a boxing perspective and the way I see it is Crolla has a mammoth task and up hill battle against a solid and underrated champion.

I hope I am wrong but I am backing Crolla to lose this weekend, possibly by stoppage. BetVictor have a Perez KO/TKO win at 12/5 and I think it carries some value. Perez certainly has enough smarts and pop to get Crolla out of there. As a Crolla and British boxing fan, I very much hope I am wrong on this pick however.

BETTING TIP: £25 on Perez by KO/TKO  12/5 BetVictor
