Danny Garcia Vs Rod Salka – Preview, prediction and betting recommendation

Danny Garcia Vs Rod Salka

Preview, prediction and betting recommendation

Firstly I couldn’t really make sense of this fight, Danny Garcia tames a beast at 140 Lucas Matthysse on a Mayweather undercard to defend his WBC and WBA world titles, following that victory you would be forgiven for believing Garcia would be going on to partaking in more huge fights.

However since that victory he has fought very competent but 3 time beaten Mauricio Herrera and is no facing a low ranked and relatively unknown Rod Salka, quite rightly the WBC and WBA organisations have refused to sanction this as a world title fight and as such the fight in to be a 10 rounder at a 142 catchweight.

It is rumoured that Danny Garcia is getting a $700,000 purse for this fight, if that is the case then it all starts to make a bit of sense, if I were a man of Danny Garcia’s talent I would happily fight Rod Salka for a lot less.

Garcia simply states he doesn’t choose his opponents his manager Al Haymon does.

Rod Salka is relatively unknown and has fought competent opposition but no one you could really class as world level, he has 3 defeats in a 22 fight career with only 3 wins via stoppage.

Salka is not a hard hitter but he does have some good movement and a good defence, Salka likes to utilise the whole ring, circling his opponent and nipping in and out of range, he has some decent speed and work rate but this has never really been tested against a quality fighter like Garcia but in terms of his style and from what I can see, he can make Garcia miss and Garcia may struggle to pin him down.

Danny Garcia is a well rounded fighter, he doesn’t do anything spectacular he is good in all areas and what he does is very effective, while I think his power is a little overrated given the manner of his stoppage wins in the sense they were pretty sensational, Khan/Morales, he does have a fight ending left hook in him.

I get the feeling Salka is made of fairly tough stuff and may be durable, this fight could easily go the distance over 10 rounds.

But on paper Garcia should get rid of this guy and with the controversy in his last fight, the fact that he was gifted a win when really he lost he will be desperate to make a statement here and with Salka’s lack of power Garcia will likely take risks to stop Salka and I think he will late on.

There isn’t really any value in this fight I cant see Garcia losing it but I can still see a scenario where Salka has more success than people would expect him too and as previously stated I won’t be falling off my chair if it goes the distance for a Garcia decision.

The bookmakers have a Garcia KO/TKO at 4/6 if it was a 12 rounder I would probably say that is playable but the fact this is a 10 rounder worries me, the Garcia decision is at 6/4 and I would really struggle to choose between the two.

I would say leave this fight for betting a noteworthy amount as a single and maybe couple Garcia by KO/TKO up with another one of the weekends fights for an interest bet, Daniel Jacobs to win by KO/TKO could be an option for a double.
