Danny Garcia Vs Robert Guerrero – Preview and Prediction

Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia will face Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero to battle it out for the vacant WBC world welterweight title, the bout will take place at the Staples Centre, Los Angeles, California USA. The fight can be viewed in the UK on Boxnation from 1am on Saturday night/Sunday morning.

This will be Garcia’s second contest at welterweight after stopping Paulie Malignaggi in 9 rounds on his welterweight debut in August of last year, having vacated his WBC world title at super lightweight to move up a division.

Guerrero began his career at featherweight and has moved up 20 pounds over the course of a 15 year career, he hasn’t carried punching power up to welterweight but he has certainly carried his heart and toughness throughout his career, Guerrero is a tough man and of a very determined nature.

However it is clear to anyone who has followed this mans career that he is not the fighter he once was, his reflexes have diminished somewhat and he now seems to favour a shoot out rather than box so well like he used to.

If he chooses to shoot it out with Garcia, he will find himself in deep water this weekend, for Guerrero to have any chance of winning this fight he must try and box.

Garcia is an unbeaten fighter but has had a couple of close scrapes with defeat in the shape of Mauricio Herrera and Lamont Peterson, both disputable majority decision wins in favour of Garcia.

Garcia is an offensively great fighter, he is a mid range hooker with his signature punch being his left hook, we are yet to establish whether he carries quite the same power up to welterweight, but if he lands that signature punch flush he could probably knock out a middleweight or two.

The bookmakers have Garcia as a clear favourite to win this fight at 1/7, and I have to agree, I believe he is in with a fighter well past his prime this weekend and should have enough to overcome anything Guerrero brings this weekend, although ‘The Ghost’ may have his moments.

I believe Garcia wins a unanimous this weekend, however at a best price of 4/5 I can’t say I am overly excited but given Guerrero is a tough man who has never been stopped in his career I will bite the bullet on it.
