Daniel Jacobs Vs Peter Quillin – Preview and Prediction

An excellent match up in the middleweight division sees Daniel Jacobs defend his WBA World middleweight title against fellow Brooklyn resident Peter Quillin, these two fighters go back a long way but its strictly business this weekend with a lot on the line for both fighters.

Jacobs has already had to overcome a bigger battle than the one he will face this Saturday night, Jacobs was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2011 and beat it to be where he is right now, that deserves an enormous amount of respect and says a lot about the man, quite rightly he is called the miracle man.

Jacobs has speed, skill and punching power however has some flaws defensively and he will need to avoid Quillin’s big right hand to avoid a repeat of his only loss to Dmitry Pirog in 2010 when Pirog landed a big overhand counter right in the 5th round to end proceedings with immediate effect.

Jacobs was also down in the 1st round against Sergio Mora in his last outing, Mora is a man not renowned for his punching power.

Quillin was disappointing against Andy Lee in his penultimate bout, he missed weight and after an effective start let Lee dictate the second half of the fight to slip to a split draw, Quillin was also down in that fight as was Lee twice.

Quillin’s last outing told us very little as it was a complete mismatch against Michael Zefara, but Quillin did display his punching power in the 5th round knocking Zefara out in what was an uncomfortable KO to watch with Zefara being stretchered out of the ring.

This is pick em type fight for me, it really would not surprise me if any outcome occurred, either has the punching power to stop the other and either can score a decision win over 12 rounds.

For me the value bet for this fight is Jacobs to be knocked down at 11/10, Quillin has scored an incredible 13 knockdowns in his last 7 fights and with Jacobs being down in his last fight against a guy not renowned for punching power there looks to be plenty of value in it.

Both guys should be each others toughest test to date and I can see this being a really thrilling contest not to be missed.
