Carl Frampton Vs Scott Quigg – Preview and Prediction

Boxing 2016 truly gets underway with an excellent unification match up in the super bantamweight division between Belfast’s ‘The Jackal’ Carl Frampton and Bury’s Scott Quigg.

Two unbeaten British world champions who have split opinion among boxing fans in what is a genuine 50/50 match up and an extremely tough fight to call.

Frampton is the better boxer technically, he can fight off the back-foot or can come forward, has great footwork, speed and throws sharp combinations and counters well.

Quigg has more raw power and physical strength, he will be the bigger man on fight night and there are plenty of stories on his OCD type dedication to his training and his immense will to win.

Both fighters can punch, Frampton has a 67% KO ratio whilst Quigg has a 70% KO ratio, I would give the slight edge to Quigg in punching power as the stat suggests, despite the fact he probably has the softer resume of opposition and has been matched well.

Both fighters have enough power to end this fight, you can not rule out the stoppage either way and that is what makes this fight so intriguing, any outcome could happen, although if it were to go the distance I would have to favour the Irishman Frampton.

Both fighters have been down in their careers, Quigg a couple of times earlier on in his career while Frampton was down twice against Mexican Alejandro Gonzalez Jr in his last fight.

As stated previously this is a very tough fight to call and I believe it could come down to who executes the right game plan on the night,  I believe Quigg needs to be coming forward to be most effective, he needs room to operate, if you can push Quigg onto the back foot I believe you take away a lot from him.

While it is close I have to favour Frampton is this fight simply because I see more ways he can win the fight.

Frampton can win this fight on the backfoot looking to out box Quigg with his superior and more natural and fluent movement, however I think allowing Quigg to be the aggressor too often will be a risky strategy, as stated this is were Quigg is most effective

I think Frampton needs to look to push Quigg back, if he is able to do that I can see him winning this convincingly. It is a real tough call to try and pick how he wins, I am certainly not ruling out a stoppage win here for Frampton (nor Quigg actually) but as I have to pick I will go Frampton by unanimous decision.

In terms of betting I am going to keep it simple, there are just too many outcomes that can occur in this fight for me, I am backing Frampton outright at Bet365 were we are covered for a refund in the event a draw occurs.
