Carl Frampton Vs Alejandro Gonzalez Jr – Preview and Prediction

IBF super bantamweight Carl Frampton will make his US debut on Al Haymon’s PBC model as he takes on a relatively unknown foe on these shores in Mexican Alejandro Gonzalez Jr.

Carl Frampton is a fighter on the rise in an exciting division, with 5 knockouts in his last 6 fights Frampton has displayed his punching power but has also shown diversity and ring intelligence, Frampton has natural ability and a fluency which enables him to deal with other varying styles.

Frampton is an emerging talent and I fully expect him to blossom into a superstar, a match up with Scott Quigg this year was a fight the British fans wanted, it is just a shame that looks very unlikely now as Scott Quigg faces Kiko Martinez this weekend and Frampton spreads his wings stateside.

Frampton’s opponent Gonzalez Jr is already a relatively experienced professional at just 22 years of age in terms of ring time, having amassed a 28 fight record with just one loss, however he is taking a considerable step up in class in Frampton.

Like most Mexicans Gonzalez Jr will be game and will have a significant reach and height advantage, Gonzalez is not a bad fighter and does have some tools, he is aggressive offensively and he is sure to be highly motivated given the opportunity he is presented with.

However for me he is overmatched against Frampton and I fully expect him to be broken down by the Jackal mid-late rounds, however Frampton is just 1/4 to get the KO/TKO, I just think that price is too short.

If you’re looking for some value I would say have a very small dabble in the Ladbrokes decisions market where they have Frampton to win by unanimous decision at 11/2, its a tough ask for the Mexican to go the distance but it has a chance.

BETTING TIP: £10 on Frampton by unanimous decision 11/2 Ladbrokes
