Caleb Truax Vs Ossie Duran – 3rd January 2014

Fight preview and betting recommendation Location – Target Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

This fight forms part of the undercard for the first world title fight of the year between Argenis Mendez and Rances Barthelemy, i believe the fight can be viewed on BT sport for those that have it.
Truax is a fringe contender type, he has only one loss on his ledger in a 25 fight career, this came to a fading Jermaine Taylor in 2012 when he was convincingly outboxed despite dropping the former undisputed middleweight champion.Since that loss Truax has looked good stopping 4 out of his last 5 opponents early, including an impressive 6 round stoppage of tough and big punching Don George, a feat Adonis Stevenson couldn’t match 10 months earlier.I consider Truax as a bit of an all rounder with decent pop he doesn’t appear to excel in any specific area but does the basics well and has good solid technical foundations and a good defence.Duran could now be considered a journeyman/spoiler type, with 11 losses in a 40 fight career, and with him taking this fight with 2 weeks notice and coming of the back of his worst loss (a 3 round KO to Matt Korobov) its no wonder most give him next to no chance against Truax, thats fine with me.I dont see it like that, if you dissect Durans losses most have been marginal points losses on the road, against competent fighters Avtandil Khurtsidze, Brandon Gonzales, Fernando Guerrero, David Alonso Lopez he was within a whisker of beating them all.

I recall when up and coming prospect James Kirkland was banging everyone out inside 3 rounds and had notched up near on 20 wins doing so, when he came up against Duran he was given his first competitive fight of his career and i consider Kirkland i real beast and i think he will be making some moves this year.

My conclusion is this will be a competitive fight and i give Duran a shot of an upset here against Truax who doesn’t quite cut the mustard at top level for me.

Duran can be had at 7/1 and i think its an extremely good price, i suggest some caution with Duran being on the road and taking the fight at a whim, i wont be surprised if he scores the upset.
