Rances Barthelemy Vs Fernando David Saucedo

Cuban star Rances Barthelemy defends his IBF super featherweight title against experienced and tough Argentinian veteran Fernando David Saucedo as the headline of a Boxnation triple header state side this weekend. After a solid amateur career Barthelemy is 20 and 0 and continuing to raise his profile. He is a typical cuban, technically fluent with silky skills, he also packs some notable power.

Saucedo has been around for 13 years and has a wealth of experience, however he is a light puncher who has fallen short each time he has stepped up to world level, one world title attempt against Chris John was a complete shut out. However is still a good fighter with some credible tools.

I think this is a great style match up for Barthelemy, he is a tall super featherweight with a long reach and this will be massively to his advantage on Saturday night as he should be able to find Saucedo on the outside. Saucedo is a guy that likes to stay out of range but that strategy will play right into Barthelemy hands and I don’t see how he can win this weekend.

The dilemma is history would tell you a Barthelemy decision is almost a given, 60 fights and no one has ever stopped the Argentinian, A Barthelemy decision is 4/6. However I think that may change this weekend as Barthelemy has plenty of power, and everything in his favour this weekend. I think he may just be the first to have Saucedo out of there and at 9/4 its worth a stab.

Boxing Tipster’s Bet: £20 on Barthelemy by KO/TKO 9/4 Bet365

martirosyan

Vanes Martirosyan Vs Willie Nelson

This isn’t likely to be a contender for fight of the weekend, Martirosyan fight’s rarely are entertaining affairs. However Martirosyan has fought credible world class opposition such as Erislandy Lara and Andrade and held his own pretty much by making fights non events. He is a good boxer who likes to keep things long but he can punch as well.

Nelson is looking to break his contender status and get in the mix for a world title shot. I see this as being a pretty dull fight but I think Nelson may have the more eye catching style in this one and will be more aggressive trying to get inside and make something happen. Martirosyan is not the most active and can adopt a low workrate.

I say this is a non event but at 11/5 I think Nelson is good value to upset the odds, he may get the nod just being the aggressor trying to make something happen in a dull affair.

Boxing Tipster’s Bet: £25 on Willie Nelson 11/5 Bet365

Chad-Dawson

Chad Dawson Vs Tommy Karpency

Chad Dawson continues his comeback after devastating back to back losses to Andre Ward and Adonis Stevenson, Dawson was stopped in both fights. Against Stevenson he was brutally KO’d in the first round, some felt he was finished at world level, that could still be the case.

He will face hardened Tommy Karpency which looks like a well picked fight to continue to re-establish Dawson’s career. Karpency has always been beaten against world level opposition.

However this is going to seem like a crazy pick and it’s one I may well end up with egg on my face but I think Karpency is better than the 10/1 shot he has been priced up in this fight, he is tough, game and can punch a bit, he is also a southpaw and Dawson has been down a couple of times against Southpaw’s.

Against Andrzej Fonfara Karpency put in a good performance and showed a lot of heart and grit, he was stopped in the 7th round but was winning the fight according to two judges at the time of stoppage and Fonfara is a very credible opponent.

I expect Dawson to win by stoppage but I think Karpency will put in a better show than many expect and a very small nibble on him won’t break the bank either.

Boxing Tipster’s Bet: £5 on Tommy Karpency 10/1 Ladbrokes.
