Billy Joe Saunders Vs John Ryder – 21st September 2013

Location – Copper Box Arena, Hackney Wick, London UK

BBBofC British middleweight title
Commonwealth (British Empire) middleweight title
John Ryder challenges Billy Joe Saunders in what looks to be a really good domestic bout at middleweight and one in which should entertain.
Both fight from a southpaw stance and both are fairly ring smart fighters who show a good awareness of distance.
Saunders is effective fighting on the front or back foot and displays good hand speed and crisp punching, while question marks carry over whether he has the power that carries up through the levels he certainly can out them with relentless combinations and effective pressure.
Ryder is mentored and trained by veteran trainer Colin Lake, a well respected and experienced trainer who insists on training one fighter only, therefore i expect Ryder to be very well prepared and chiselled for this fight.
I figure Ryder will most likely look to utilise his good defensive skills to neutralise Saunders pressure and look to land counters and i expect him to have some success in this fight.
However i think over the 12 rounds Saunders will be the one that lands more, pressures more and catches the eye more and a Saunders unanimous decision looks on the cards for me in this one.
Saunders is between 8/11 and 10/11 with most bookmakers however Stan James have a Saunders decision at evens which seems a generous offering and one i will be taking up.

ATR’s Bet – £25 on Saunders by decision 1/1 Stan James
