Badou Jack Vs Lucian Bute – Preview and Prediction

Badou Jack will make the second defence of his WBC world super middleweight title at the Armory in Washington DC this weekend following his split decision victory against George Groves last September.

Lucian Bute will get a second opportunity to become a two time world champion despite his failed attempt to regain his IBF world super middleweight belt against James DeGale in Quebec, Canada, last November.

Jack has vastly improved over the last couple of years, he put in a excellent performance as a substantial underdog to rip the title from Anthony Dirrell in April of last year, then a classy performance saw him utilise his jab and straight right so effectively against George Groves to defend his title in his first defence in September.

Jack doesn’t excel in any particular area but he is very solid all round and has learnt to utilise the tools he has so effectively, Jack has come a long way since he was poleaxed in a round by Derek Edwards back in 2014. His only career defeat to date.

Bute was once a dominant champion who held the IBF world super middleweight title for nearly 5 straight years making 9 defences against contender types before he stepped up against Carl Froch in 2012, Froch stopped Bute in 5 rounds in dominant and brutal fashion, some say Bute hasn’t been the same fighter since.

Bute is a skilled southpaw with punching power but the truth is each time he has stepped up and stepped in with some of the best super middleweights in the world he has fallen short, his 3 career defeats consist of Carl Froch, Jean Pascal and James DeGale.

Bute seems very motivated to regain a world title and against Badou Jack I feel he is in with a realistic chance of doing just that, I see this fight as a competitive bout.

It is clear to see Bute is perhaps past his very best but I do believe he has regained some burning desire and maybe some confidence, he is correctly the underdog in this fight however some books have him as a 3/1 underdog, I feel this fight is closer than that.

I am expecting Jack to retain his title with a very close points win this weekend but the bet I am actually recommending is to take Lucian Bute outright to win the fight at 3/1 as for me there is simply too much value in the odds to turn down.
