Austin Trout Vs Erislandy Lara – 7th December 2013

Fight preview and betting recommendation

Location -Barclays Center, Brooklyn, USA

Vacant WBA World light middleweight title

Two technical and ‘pure’ boxers go head to head in a fight that will most certainly be one for the purists to appreciate, it’s certainly one i am looking forward to. .

As with many Cuban boxers Lara achieved as an amateur, winning the 2005 amateur welterweight world championship. Lara then defected to mexico in 2008 to pursue a career in the professional ranks.

Lara fights from a southpaw stance and is an excellent defensive fighter, who gives angles and works well off the jab, Lara is also an underrated counter puncher.

Trout another good amateur is highly skilled offensively and adopts a high work rate, while he isn’t a devastating puncher he is quite physically strong, tough and resilient.

The way i see this fight is both fighters are fairly evenly matched in terms of skill set, what really is worth noting is the output of each fighter.

Trout has nearly doubled Lara’s output in some fights and i believe that is where the difference will be on the night, Trout will outwork Lara.

Lara may land the better shots but at times his output is too low and i can see Trout taking the initiative for large periods of this fight which will sway some close rounds in his favour.

It may well be a very subjective fight to score and we may see scoring with variance swings amongst the judging panel but for me i think Trout will stay the busier over the 12 and has enough guile and craft to match Lara.
