Argenis Mendez Vs Arash Usmanee – 23rd August

Some may remember Usmanee from a fight that took place earlier this year, against hotly regarded prospect Rances Barthelemy. Usmanee despite being the aggressor, throwing nearly 100 punches per round and for the best part of the fight giving Barthelemy fits was robbed in the Cuban’s adopted backyard.

Mendez comes from a solid amateur background and is starting to make moves in the pro game winning the IBF super featherweight belt with a devastating KO against Juan Carlos Salgado in his last fight, and he is making his first defence here, and it could be a tough one.

While Mendez will be the slicker technician with a superior skill set, however if he is unable to deter Usmanee he will have a constant figure trying to walk him down and land power shots, and we have seen so many times recently how effective aggression and work rate can be against even the slickest and skilled boxers, Kiko Martinez is a most recent example.

While i still give Mendez the obvious edge given his recent rise and apparent dedication to the pro game i still believe Usmanee is more than live in this fight and is a tough cookie to break in half, at 4/1 Usmanee is worth a shot in my opinion.
