Anthony Joshua Vs Gary Cornish – Preview and Prediction

Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua continues his journey towards the world stage as he takes on Scotland’s ‘Highlander’ Gary Cornish, both fighters are unbeaten but that won’t be the case after this weekend.

Anthony Joshua has captured the attention of a nation and his popularity seems to grow intensely with each fight, there are still questions to be answered, so far however Anthony Joshua looks to have the potential of a future world champion, he really needs testing against better opposition but at 25 years of age there is really no rush.

The two main question marks that surround Joshua at present are his chin and stamina, no one has really been able to give Joshua a proper chin check to date, and with no one taking Joshua past 3 rounds no one really knows how he will perform in the late rounds of a fight if he needs to go there.

Cornish is currently 21 fights unbeaten but like Joshua his level of opposition you would expect him to be, but still they make them tough in Scotland and sometimes you never truly know how deep an unbeaten fighter can dig until they have been beaten.

The bookmakers have Joshua as short as 1/100 favourite, against an unbeaten fighter you could argue that is perhaps a bit too short, however if you have seen some Gary Cornish fights you will probably understand why, he doesn’t really bring anything to the table that should trouble Joshua.

This will be another early night for Anthony Joshua, I can’t see how Cornish wins this fight unless he lands a punch from the gods and a 57% knockout ratio for a heavyweight isn’t a sign of a huge puncher, particularly against the soft opposition Cornish has faced, but this is heavyweight boxing once punch can be all it takes.

I worry for Cornish is this fight, I think he will get smoked inside 3 rounds and so do the bookmakers, Joshua is just 1/14 at some books to win in the first 6 rounds. However there is a bet I do like – Betfred have under 2.5 rounds at 4/7, the price is a little short and we only have until the half way point of the 3rd round, but I think it wins.

BETTING TIP: £35 on under 2.5 rounds 4/7 Betfred.
