Anthony Crolla Vs Jorge Linares – Preview and Prediction

Anthony Crolla will face the toughest test of his career to date in three weight world champion, Venezuelan Jorge Linares. Crolla will be defending his WBA world title while the WBC diamond belt and Ring Magazine belt will also be on the line for the winner.

This is unquestionably one of the best fights that can be made in the lightweight division right now and I am expecting fireworks between these two this weekend. The fight will be televised live in the UK from 7.30 pm on Sky Sports 2 this Saturday night.

Crolla will be looking to continue his own rocky story after coming back from a career threatening head injury to become a world champion in the space of a year, one of the most improved fighters I have seen in years will have home advantage in front of a very vocal and supportive Manchester crowd at the Manchester Arena.

Most UK boxing fans will best remember Linares from his penultimate fight in London last year when he stopped Kevin Mitchell in a bloody back and forth war of attrition, a barnstormer of a contest that saw Linares win the WBC world lightweight title, a belt he has defended successfully once since against Ivan Cano.

Linares at 31 years of age and 43 fights may have already seen his very best days but this is a fighter still amassed with talent and ability, he is a very clever and classy fighter and will for me, have the superior skill set over his opponent this weekend.

However in my opinion Linares weaknesses are his punch resistance and ability to deal with a crisis under pressure, and these are major factors Anthony Crolla can exploit this Saturday night.

Crolla has molded himself into an exceptional fighter and has gone from flirting around the domestic scene to become a top level fighter and is arguably one of the best lightweights in the world right now, his persistence, work rate and will to win may just be enough to see him defeat a three weight world champion this weekend.

I think this could be a close affair and isn’t the easiest fight to predict but I do fancy Crolla to do well in the second half of this fight after having issues with Linares early on.

I think Crolla buoyed on by the Manchester crowd will take the fight to Linares and his persistence and pressure will begin to pay dividends in the later rounds as Linares begins to struggle under pressure, I think Crolla wins, possibly by stoppage. However in all honesty, would I be shocked if that result was reversed? in a nutshell, no.

This is a great match up between two of the best lightweights in the world right now, and in terms of their styles, I think they will match well and we could see an enthralling fight this weekend.

I will be taking the 5/2 on offer at Paddy Power for Anthony Crolla to win by stoppage this weekend.
