Anthony Crolla Vs James Murray

Possibly fight of the weekend this one, a real 50/50 between former European champion and world title contender John Murray and former British champion and current WBO inter continental champion Anthony Crolla.

Murray is on the comeback trail after retiring from the sport following a failed world title attempt and defeat to an overweight Brandon Rios, Murray is a pressure fighter, he is aggressive and can bang he will be looking to draw Crolla into a scrap and make it his kind of fight, if he does that he should be odds on to win this fight.

However not only is Murray facing Anthony Crolla he is also facing his old trainer Joe Gallagher who trained Murray for his entire career, right from a 15 year old teenager to a world title fight vs Brandon Rios, Gallagher knows everything there is to know about John Murray, his strengths, his weaknesses and what makes him tick. Advantage Crolla.

Anthony Crolla has been one of the most improved fighters for me over the past few years, he has gone from a guy who did all the basics well to growing into his own and there is a real class about Crolla’s boxing now, his movement is very fluent and his ring IQ is smart, also i believe Crolla has underrated punching power going into this fight, he can hurt Murray more than people believe.

The bookmakers have this fight at pretty much 50/50 with Murray being had at 8/11 and Crolla 11/8, i think there is value in Crolla here not only in the outright market but also the method market, Crolla is 5/4 just to win at Bet365 and 9/2 to find a stoppage, there is potential to play the outright but also make a very small play on Crolla be stoppage to put some meat on the play.

If £25 is staked on Crolla at 5/4 the returns will be £56.25, however if £5 is also placed on Crolla to win by KO/TKO at 9/2, the overall stake will be £30 but the returns are much more healthier at £83.75 if he finds the stoppage, if he wins a decision we will only be £5 short on are profit for the outright play, it would effectively mean we took Crolla at evens not 5/4 and i am very comfortable with that.

I see Crolla as being a guy hitting his peak right now and i expect him to outclass John Murray this weekend, Murray will have his moments but i see Crolla as the guy landing and he has enough punching power for me to hurt Murray so dont be surprised if this one doesnt go the distance, either way.

Boxing tipster’s bet: £25 on Crolla 5/4 Bet365 and £5 on Crolla by KO/TKO 9/2 Bet365
