Andre Berto Vs Jesus Soto Karass – 27th July (Boxnation 2am)

Location – Texas USA

Vacant NABF welterweight title

Berto was a highly regarded prospect in his first 7 years as a pro he had outed 20 of his first 27 opponents, and seem destined to rise to the very top, he is an explosive puncher with quick hands and athletic movement, in fact 2 years ago some felt he could be the next big mover.

His career came to a jolt when he faced Victor Ortiz in a war of attrition in what was fight of the year in many people’s archive. Both fighters saw the canvass twice in the fight but it was Ortiz who closed the show to walk away with the win.

Karass some would say is a fringe contender type he has mixed it with an array of world level opposition but recently, has come up too short too often, losing 5 of his last 9 fights. Its no wonder people see this as a step back on the road for Berto and see Karass as an easy victory.

I don’t see it like that, Karass is tough and willing, adopts a high work rate, relentlessly closes the gap and will let his hands go. Berto has struggled with such in the past and i don’t see this as a good style match up for Berto and we could see him struggle once again.

Against Robert Guerrero Berto was out-muscled and out hussled and was unable to cope with Guerrero’s early pressure and suffered 2 knockdowns on the way to a demoralising loss.

Karass is 3/1 at Bet365 and i think he is worth a nibble, albeit a smallish one.

ATR’s Bet – £25 on Karass 3/1 Bet365
