Amir Khan Vs Devon Alexander

Preview, Prediction and Betting Tip

Amir Khan will face Devon Alexander as both fighters look to land world title shots off the back of a win this weekend at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.

Khan has been rebuilding his career after losing his light welterweight world title in a devastating loss to Danny Garcia over two years ago, he is now campaigning at welterweight and has been targeting a fight with Floyd Mayweather. This weekend he needs to put all that aside and concentrate on task in hand, Alexander will be a tough opponent to overcome.

Alexander himself is looking to re-establish himself as a world champion after losing his IBF welterweight title to Shawn Porter a year ago, a title that now belongs to Kell Brook. This may not be a world title fight but it is a very relevant fight in the welterweight division and the winner should find themselves fighting for a world title in 2015.

Amir Khan needs no introduction on these shores, most UK boxing fans would have followed his career from his Olympic silver amateur days right through to present, he is explosive, lightning fast, exciting but also at times vulnerable, that is what usually makes watching Amir Khan a thrilling experience.

Khan looked a new fighter in his last bout against Luis Collazo, patient, smart, calculated and much better defensively. However Luis Collazo while very capable is not on the level of a guy like Alexander, so this fight should really tell us whether Khan is going to make some waves in a highly competitive welterweight division or not.

Alexander is a top welterweight who only has two defeats, one to Timothy Bradley and one to Shawn Porter. He was an accomplished amateur with a record of 300-10 winning an array of amateur titles, while not a devastating puncher he is quick, athletic and an awkward lefty.

I think we have a close fight on our hands here and i would struggle to back Amir Khan at a best price of 4/9 in this one, although I think he will come away with a close and competitive decision win this weekend.

A market I like for this one is the knockdown markets offered up by paddy power, this market is also a winner in the event a stoppage occurs without a knockdown actually occuring, there has been 12 knockdowns and 6 stoppages in Amir Khans last 10 fights since 2009, he is quick out of the gates and I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see him drop Alexander early in this one.

Also as we know Khan can be vulnerable also so I wont be surprised to see a knockdown here, Paddy Power have Alexander to be knocked down at 7/4 and Khan to be knocked down at 9/4 I think straddling these two outcomes gives us a good chance to profit from the fight.

Prediction: Amir Khan UD

Boxing Tipster’s Bet: £20 on Alexander to be knocked down 7/4 Paddy Power, £10 on Khan to be knocked down 9/4.
