Adrien Broner Vs Khabib Allakhverdiev + Pedraza Vs Cherry – Preview and Predictions

Adrien Broner gets the chance to capture the vacant WBA World super lightweight title in front his home crowd in Cincinnati, Ohio against Russian Khabib Allakhverdiev.

Broner claims to be a changed man for this fight, the trash talker states he is now taking his career seriously and is refocused, Broner appears to have trained hard for this fight, which would be a wise move, with 2 losses Broner is no longer living on hype and has to start delivering if he is to stay as a main attraction.

Broner has lost 2 of his last 5 fights and was outworked and out-hustled in his last outing against Shawn Porter, and he will need to up his work ethic and utilise all his talent if he is to save a career which has seriously wilted in the last couple of years.

There is no denying Broner’s talents, he was an exceptional super featherweight and lightweight world champion but since moving up to the welterweight and super lightweight limits he hasn’t quite had the same impact, you have to go back to Broner’s lightweight days to revisit the last time he scored a stoppage win.

Allakhverdiev will be competing for the same title he held in 2012 and 2013 before losing it to Jessie Vargas in his last fight in early 2014, it will be 18 months since Allakhverdiev last entered the ring so ring rust could be a factor.

While Allakhverdiev clearly doesn’t possess the same talents of Broner, he is a rugged fighter, with a good chin, he will certainly keep coming forward and throwing if Broner allows him to dictate this fight.

However if the best Adrien Broner turns up this weekend it really should be too bigger task for Allakhverdiev, he just wouldn’t be on the same level for me.

Broner can be one of the most frustrating fighters to bet on, while his skills are sometimes undeniable, his work rate and commitment are somewhat questionable, however I think Broner knows how important this fight is and we will hopefully see a vast improvement on his last few outings.

The most likely outcome looks like Broner points, I won’t argue with that and at 11/10 you could argue its playable. However I believe Broner has a guy here he can really pick off and if he picks up his work rate I think he can stop Allakhverdiev in front of his home town.

It is possibly a controversial pick considering Broner hasn’t stopped anyone in his last 6 fights and his power looks to be a waning factor at the higher weights, however Allakhverdiev despite being a rugged guy can mark up and I think Broner can get a stoppage via accumulation.

Broner is 11/5 by KO/TKO at Paddy Power it’s far from a breathtaking price, but it is a playable one for me.

BETTING TIPS: £20 on Broner by KO/TKO 11/5 Paddy Power

Jose Pedraza Vs Edner Cherry

Edner Cherry gets another shot at a world title as he takes on Puerto Rican and unbeaten IBF super featherweight champion Jose Pedraza, the last time the experienced 33 year old fought for a world title he was comprehensively beaten over 12 rounds against Timothy Bradley in 2008.

Cherry is 5/1 at 10Bet to score the upset and I actually think this bout is more competitive than those odds suggest and Cherry while correctly the underdog is very much a live one.

I am going to have a small play on ‘Cherry Bomb’ scoring an upset win this weekend.

BETTING TIP: £10 on Cherry to win 5/1 10Bet
