Adrien Broner Vs Emmanuel Taylor

Preview, prediction and betting recommendation

I was holding off on my recommendation for this one, one because the market was quite slow in opening up and two i felt this was a fight I really needed to see both men on the scales before I could make a final pick.

Question marks have been raised about Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner of late and whether he could be heading for a crash and burn career, I say this not solely because of his demoralising loss to Marcos Maidana but because of his choices outside of the ring, the lifestyle he appeared to be living and the company he is keeping.

But on the scales Broner looked in good shape today, yes he was bang on the weight at 140 and probably had to sweat a bit earlier in the day but he looked like a man who had trained properly for a fight, he looked in shape, he looked strong and he certainly looks the bigger man on his opponent Emmanual Taylor.

Taylor weighed in at 138.5 for the record.

With all the bravado and antics outside of the ring people sometimes forget what Broner has achieved, he was a two weight world champion at only 23 years of age,  a 3 weight world champion by 25 if you include the WBA ‘World’ title he won at Welterweight.

Broner is a talented fighter but so far he doesn’t look like he carries the punching power he did at super-featherweight and lightweight, in his last outing at welterweight he went the distance with a modest Carlos Molina, and I think Emmanuel Taylor is a significantly tougher opponent than Molina.

When the fight was first announced I saw it as more competitive than most and while something tells me Broner may put on a show this weekend and get a stoppage, going on his past 2 performances and his recent moves in weight class, I think he may be in tough with Taylor.

I am going with a straddle play for this one, you can get 7/4 on Broner by points and 8/1 on Taylor just to win, I think those are good to straddle. Obviously we lose the lot if Broner does put on a show but Taylor is a tough kid with a good defence I certainly see it feasible that he takes Broner the distance in a competitive fight.

Boxing Tipster’s Bet: £20 on Adrien Broner by points 7/4 spread ex, £5 on Emmanuel Taylor 8/1 Stan James, (put £1 on the draw 33/1 Spread ex to cover just incase)
