Adonis Stevenson Vs Tony Bellew – 30th November 2013

Fight preview and betting recommendation

Location -Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City, Quebec,Canada

WBC light heavyweight title

Tony Bellew finally gets his shot at a world title and chance to shine on the big stage against devastating Canadian puncher Adonis Stevenson.

Stevenson a stand out amateur, was late to the pro game and at 36 has only announced his arrival to the world stage this year. 2013 has seen him avenge has only defeat and stop former and well respected champions Chad Dawson and Tavoris Cloud .

Bellew as you can imagine is given little chance in a fight that on paper looks too big of an ask. Bellew is going in with a guy who has stopped 82% of his opponents to date and he will be taking him on in his own backyard with a somewhat ‘local’ judging panel overlooking.

Bellew was an excellent amateur himself who won 3 ABA amateur titles in the heavyweight division, his penultimate fight came in a WBO world title fight against Nathan Cleverly in 2011 when he came up just short against the Welshman losing by majority decision.

Bellew has great boxing ability there is no question but his recent performances have made people question whether he can cut the mustard at the very top level Bellew was made to look average at times in his two fights against Isaac Chilemba.

In his last fight Stevenson picked apart Tavoris Cloud with intelligent movement and smarts and while those who knew Stevenson early in his career knew Stevenson could box, it confirmed to the rest of the world Stevenson is not just a knockout artist, there are many more tools in the toolbox.

I think Bellew can have some success boxing at range in this fight and i dont expect Stevenson to just blow Bellew out as many do, i think Bellew can have some success early, perhaps win a couple of the early rounds.

However the problem i do see is that Bellew does leave himself open, he has been down against much lesser fighters than Stevenson and you have to fancy Stevenson to find that big punch at some point in this fight.

Bellew has shown real resilience in the past in getting up off the canvas and winning fights, however we are talking about domestic level opposition and he is no longer at that level if Stevenson has Bellew hurt he will likely finish it there and then, there will be no second chances.

I think this is a tough fight to bet Bellew is as big as 4/1 to win this fight, while i would not completely write Bellew off i would say that price is about right given the task he is up against in terms of location, judging panel not just the quality opposition.

I would be inclined to leave this fight as i feel Stevenson will likely stop Bellew at some point maybe middle to late, just 1/2 is too short for me, if your looking for an interest bet i would say Stevenson 5-8 at 3/1 ladbrokes looks half decent but i just wouldn’t go big on this fight,

Bellew could spring the upset, he is talented enough i just think he going up against a guy he is perhaps a class above.
